چکیده

Microplastics present in marine ecosystems have become a major environmental issue. This problem is due to not only the harmful effects of microplastics on exposed organisms, but also their ability adsorb organic compounds, which can combined effect. Steroid hormones are an important group endocrine-disrupting compounds that display moderately lipophilic behavior and can, subsequently, be adsorbed microplastics. For this reason, it necessary determine type contaminants microplastic waste. In order investigate issue, work presents analytical method based ultrasound-assisted extraction ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UAE-UHPLC-MS/MS) presence 13 steroid pellets fragments. The different variables affecting process, such as solvent volume time, were optimized. showed excellent recoveries (above 80% for most compounds), satisfactory repeatability values limits detection (LoD) between 0.07 27.5 ng·g−1. Once optimized, developed was applied fragment samples collected from eight beaches Canary Islands (Spain). samples, at least one hormone detected up seven some samples. concentrations studied ranged < LoQ 157

Macrodebris and microplastics from beaches in Slovenia.

The amount of marine debris in the environment is increasing worldwide, which results in an array of negative effects to biota. This study provides the first account of macrodebris on the beach and microplastics in the sediment (shoreline and infralittoral) in relation to tourism activities in Slovenia. The study assessed the quality and quantity of macrodebris and the quality, size and quantit...

Comparative potential of black tea leaves waste to granular activated carbon in adsorption of endocrine disrupting compounds from aqueous solution

The adsorption properties and mechanics of selected endocrine disrupting compounds; 17 β-estradiol, 17 α – ethinylestradiol and bisphenol A on locally available black tea leaves waste and granular activated carbon were investigated. The results obtained indicated that the kinetics of adsorption were pH, adsorbent dose, contact time and temperature dependent with equilibrium being reached at 20 ...

Endocrine Disrupting Compounds – Problems and Challenges

In this chapter, information about some of the estrogenic compounds and their environmental fate and biological influence can be found. Special attention is paid to the review of the analytical approaches used at the stages of detection and determi‐ nation of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDCs) in the environmental samples. Also, a brief characterization of both cellular and non-cellular bioa...

Fungal Laccases Degradation of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds

Over the past decades, water pollution by trace organic compounds (ng/L) has become one of the key environmental issues in developed countries. This is the case of the emerging contaminants called endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs). EDCs are a new class of environmental pollutants able to mimic or antagonize the effects of endogenous hormones, and are recently drawing scientific and public a...
